I Don’t Like How I Look
I don’t like how my face looks.
How do you even know what it looks like?
What?! I see myself in mirrors and in photographs.
Well those are human inventions. If Mother Nature wanted you to see yourself, she would have put your eyeballs on your hands so you could stretch out your palms and look. But no. Mother Nature put your eyes on your own face.
Hmm.
And why do you think that is?
I donno.
Well if you ask me, it’s because your job is to experience being in the world! Not to see what you look while you’re being in it.
Hm.
You are alive! Do you have any idea what a rare phenomenon that is?
Yeah I guess you’re right.
Of course I’m right! So are you going to use your time here for thinking about the shape of your nose or your chin? Or for getting out so you can connect with people places and things! It’s other people’s job to see you. So you best make sure to get out there so they can find you and connect with you!
But what if they think I look weird?
Well let’s do the reverse test… What if you thought another person looked weird? Would you still want to be their friend?
If they’re fun and kind.
Well then.
Hm.
And besides. If you haven’t noticed, all of us humans look weird. We’re flesh-sacks of weirdness! Drooping arms, gangly legs, mouths that talk and sometimes eat at the same time, dressing up to traipse across the earth to fill up and do our best to share the best of what we’ve got left. But you’re here! Breathing in and out and experiencing yourself doing all this stuff! And that in itself is a wonder!
You’re right! I’m a living, breathing wonder!
Finally, I got through to someone.
Thank you so much!
Anytime.
